The Girls in Pine Brooke
A Detective Riley Quinn Pine Brooke Mystery (Book 1)
So…my Kindle recommended The Girls in Pine Brooke to me. I have a love-hate relationship with electronic devices—especially the ones that claim to “know” me. But I have to admit: my Kindle is eerily good at it. Creepy? Yes. Wrong? Also yes. But disappointing? Not yet.
From the jump, this book had me. I live for a killer prologue—pun totally intended. It sets the vibe, shows off the author’s style, and lets me know whether I should buckle up or quietly back away. This one? A girl running for her life through dark woods in the dead of night. I mean…how am I not supposed to keep reading?
Do I feel weird for enjoying these intense openers? A little. But as a fan of horror, mystery, thrillers, and psychological twists—I’m wired to be thrilled by fictional terror. Give me chaos, secrets, and someone screaming in the woods, and I’m in.
This book checks all the boxes:
Small town where everyone knows everyone (and everyone has a secret)
Diversity ✅
Drama ✅
A hot doctor ✅
Said doctor’s badass brother ✅
A compassionate yet tough-as-nails female detective ✅
Family, friends, buried secrets, and yes—a coffee shop ✅ ✅ ✅
It's everything I want in a cozy-but-deadly mystery, and best of all, it’s the start of a five-book series. You already know I’m reading the rest and keeping this quirky little West Coast town bookmarked in my mind.
